2025 Australia Day Award Nominations

Nominations are now open for the 2025 Bland Shire Australia Day awards. 

NOMINATIONS CLOSE 22 NOVEMBER 2024.

Categories this year include: 

Citizen of the Year- A person who, in their vocational, voluntary or other activities, provided an outstanding contribution to the Bland Shire.

Young Citizen of the Year - A person 25 years or under who, in their vocational, voluntary or other activities, provided outstanding service to the Bland Shire community.

Sportsperson of the Year – A person who, has provided meritorious service and an outstanding contribution to their individual sporting pursuits.

Young Sportsperson of the Year - A person 25 years or under who has provided meritorious service and an outstanding contribution to their individual sporting pursuits. 

Community Service Award- A person who has made a valuable contribution

Community Event of the Year- A local group that has arranged an event bringing increased/improved promotion to the Bland Shire.

Before you start

View eligibility criteria 

Before submitting a nomination application, please review the eligibility criteria outlined below and ensure nominees for all categories must:-

  • Be an Australian Citizen
  • Reside in the Bland Shire at the time of nomination or if not living in the Shire must have contributed to the Shire for a period of twelve (12) months or longer and who has demonstrated a record of providing beneficial services, to the Bland Shire community.
  • Fall within the respective age category for the respective Awards as at 26 January in the year the Award is given.
  • Unsuccessful nominees may be re-nominated in subsequent years.
  • Self-nominations will not be accepted.
  • Sitting state and federal politicians and current councillors are not eligible.
  • Retired politicians and former councillors are eligible however consideration of their nomination would be for their work over and above their official duties.
  • Persons who have been awarded a Citizen of the Year Award may not be re-nominated.
  • Awards will not be granted posthumously.

LETTERS OF SUPPORT

To strengthen your nomination you may attach letters of support from other groups or individuals.

The Australia Day Awards Committee reserves the right to decline any nomination it feels does not fully satisfy the criteria

PREPARING YOUR NOMINATION

Please include as much detail as possible about your nominee for the judges to consider. A summary of the information that you provide will be used to compile citations for the winners in each of the categories. This information may also be provided to the media.

The nominee will not be informed by Council about who nominated them. However, nominators can inform nominees if they so wish.

Where applicable, nominators are also encouraged to provide documentation in support of the nomination.

 

How to nominate

CATEGORIES

What happens next

Review of application

Once your application has been submitted, the application will be reviewed to ensure all relevant details have been provided. Please note, though contact details are not a required field on the nomination form, we will contact you to obtain nominee details so we can confirm their acceptance of the nomination and for the nomination to be deemed eligible. The eligible applications will then be reviewed by the Judging Panel in December 2024. 

Who will decide the winners?

The Bland Shire Australia Day awards will be judged entirely on the content contained within the nomination. Achievements outside of the nomination cannot be considered in judging, the decision will be final and no correspondence will be entered into. 

The judging panel will be looking not only at the length or value of service, but also the quality of the service, including individual acts of compassion, generosity, bravery, ingenuity, creativity or professional accomplishments.  

When will the awards be announced?

The awards will be announced at the Australia Day Awards Ceremony on 26 January 2025.
