Bland Shire Mayor Councillor Brian Monaghan has advised of the passing of Cr Bruce Baker at the weekend.
Cr Monaghan said it was with great sadness that he informed residents and ratepayers of Cr Baker’s death on Sunday morning.
“Cr Baker was first elected to Council on 20th September 2016 as one of nine representatives for the community,” Cr Monaghan said.
“At the Local Government elections in December 2021, Cr Baker was returned with an increased first preference vote to commence his second term on Council.”
The Mayor said that during Cr Baker’s time on Bland Shire Council, he had represented the organisation on the Bland-Temora Rural Fire District Zone Liaison Committee and the Bland-Temora RFS Zone Bushfire Management Committee.
“He was also heavily involved with the Mirrool Silo Kick Committee – a section 355 Committee of Council and oversaw financial management of the annual event in the position of Treasurer for a number of years,” Cr Monaghan said.
“Cr Baker, who spent more than 50 years as a wool classer, was passionate about not only the Mirrool community but the broader Bland Shire region and regularly advocated for improved road access for rural residents.
“He will be deeply missed by his fellow Councillors, Council officers, and our entire community. Our thoughts go to his family and friends during this difficult time.”
